Standing on one leg
in the swampy pond.
Is the Heron waiting
for the Canada
geese to return or
is he enjoying his
moments of quiet?

Moon Over Jefferies

Looking out of the
fourteen story window
at the sleet falling
cold and grey. A
January evening
fifty years ago. Most
of life still in the
future. Not yet
lived.
Lost
Crescent Shadows
Crescent shadows as the
moon passes the sun
my neighbor’s voices loud
in the street.
The cicadas quiet as
the light fades. Not dark,
sun still high overhead.
Feathered Crescents
Feathered crescent
shadows reflected
on the asphalt
as the moon
crossed the sun.
Eclipse #2
Standing in front of
offices and stores,
they shared one pair of
glasses,
passing them down
the line like a
joint.
September
The Eclipse
Another hot morning.
By 1 PM the sun
was overhead
bright and hotter.
Looking through
pinholes and fingers.
Then all around –
crescents. On the
car, the driveway.
Like cave paintings
on the asphalt.
Cave Paintings
Like cave paintings
on asphalt, we
watched the moon
slide across the
sun in crescents
coming through
the trees.
Time Travelers

A group of seven ten
year old kids on
bikes and scooters
careened around the corner.
No adults in sight.
Time travelers.
A Golden Leaf
I opened the door and
walked into the heat.
The click of the cicadas
was their daytime low.
Walking down the sloping
driveway to the mailbox,
the green canopy overhead.
Looking down the street,
the thunder clouds piled
up. A golden leaf floated
to the ground.
