Month: March 2021

The end

One yellow daffodil.
Through the
fog, I walk my
last poem to the
mailbox.

Candles

Every morning I
light the
candles, Ask a
blessing for children,
grandchildren, partners, former
partners. For all of
them. For all of
us.

Catching my breath

I pity the huddled
masses yearning
to breath
free.
It's rough trying to
catch your
breath
around here,
even if you aren't in
a cage at the
border.

Remembering

What don't we
remember? All
those days
past.

Dreaming

I stood at the top
of a long
flight of stairs.
Stepping out, I
soared.

Peace Poem

Here the rain falls lightly.
I eat my oatmeal, watch
raindrops hit a
blade of grass. In Minnesota
barbed wire is being
placed in preparation for
the murder trial.
No justice. No
Peace.

Dusk

Porch lights climb the
hill in the dark
stars shine through
the bare branches. I
lie in bed
reading. An owl
hoots.

Spring

New buds push beech leaves shivering to the ground.
Making way for spring.

Only One

One yellow daffodil
soggy from rain, a
bright spot in
dead leaves.

Rummy

Warmed by the sun,
Jim clears away
the breakfast things.
Ready for rummy.
